A great day in the air

Had an aerial photography assignment a couple of weeks ago. 3 sites overall - 2 pre-cast commercial buildings and a seminary in Mundelien, IL. The pre-cast commercial buildings were...well, pre-cast commercial buildings. The campus of the University of St Mary of the Lake, however, is a beautiful place, especially from the air. A very large lake perfectly still in the nearly windless morning and the acres of woods ablaze with early fall color. I wanted to go in the late morning because all the buildings at the seminary faced east and I didn't want them in shadow. Unfortunately, this didn't really give the ground haze enough time to burn off, not to mention it hadn't rained in a couple of weeks so there was probably a bit of dust in the air. But I was able to punch it up a little in post and it came out pretty nicely.

I need to remember to tie my shoes tighter next time, though. I was hanging out the door of the jump plane over the third and final site of the day and suddenly felt my shoe being pulled from my foot. I was tethered to the plane and couldn't really reach down to grab it. Nor could I just pull my foot into the cabin because I thought that would really make the wind catch it and pull it the rest of the way off. I would up just bracing the loose shoe against my other leg and doing a careful roll backward. Awkward, but effective.
