Happy birthday, Dave Brubeck

I love music. Always have.

And I've always had pretty eclectic and broad tastes when it comes to style and genre. Rock, classical, country, jazz, Celtic, bluegrass, whatever.... Though I've never developed a taste for rap, per se, I even get into the occasional Eminem or Beastie Boys track. My philosophy has always been that there's no such thing as bad music...just music I don't personally care for. If someone likes it, even if it's only the artist who made it, then it's served its purpose. I can't understand people who only listen to a very narrow slice of the musical abundance that's out there and say everything else sucks. No, my friend, it's your life that sucks. How can someone listen to only metal, or only country, or only rap? Why deprive yourself of such a rich, sensuous smorgasbord? It's like going to a freakin' all-you-can-eat buffet and only getting the macaroni and cheese...

Dave Brubeck is celebrating his 91st birthday today and he's still going strong. I had a re-issue of his "Take Five" album on vinyl back in the 70's...played it so much it was like a slinky toy when it was all over.

So happy birthday, Dave. Thanks for being such a delicious entree on the smorgasbord of Life!
