I grew up reading LIFE magazine during the 1960's. LIFE and LOOK were always on the coffee table giving me a visual tour of a turbulent world - war, revolution, civil rights, riots, assassination, music† - and my first real exposure to photography.
So I always succumb to a wave of nostalgia when I stumble across something like The 75 Best LIFE Photos. So many great photographers either worked for or contributed to LIFE, it's like a Who's Who of the Masters of Photography. Margaret Bourke-White, W. Eugene Smith, Alfred Eisenstaedt.... And all these were back in the film days, no chimping the back of your camera to see if you got the shot.
† come to think of it, maybe things haven't changed all that much in 40 or 50 years...
